July Programme & Special Guests

July 1 – Special Guest Carmel Charlton (8 pm – 9 pm) presents THE GREAT RIDE based on a letter from Carmel’s husband’s great-uncle Trooper Ned Moriarty to his sister Alice in W.A. In 1918 Palestine, the Australian Light Horse commenced a pursuit of the Turks all the way to Damascus. The presentation includes songs, dialogue and images that illuminate the struggle, emotion and humour and life the troops went through during the 12 day ride which was led by the Western Australian 10th Light Horse Regiment. Banjo Paterson was also involved in The Great Ride as a remount officer, looking after the welfare of the horses. Carmel, an accomplished WA singer, songwriter and musician, has presented her show to enthusiastic audiences in that state as well as venues on the east coast including the National Library in Canberra. Comments include: ‘Carmel held us spellbound.’ ‘One of the best (presentations) I have heard. ‘Exceptionally poignant and polished.’I was enormously impressed (and) could not have enjoyed myself more.’

Don’t miss this rare chance to hear Carmel, on tour from WA where she runs Jackadder’s Music Club. Her voice is strong, compelling and beautiful; her versatility and stories relating to the songs completely engage her audience. www.carmelcharlton.com

July 8 – Full blackboard night.

July 15 – Full blackboard night.

July 22 – Featuring Pete Cartwright (8:30pm – 9pm).  Pete has an easy-listening style, an attractive melodious voice and a repertoire which reflects the influence of those great 60s artists such as Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, Gordon Bok, plus the Beatles to the Eagles, Led Zepplin and Russian folk songs! Pete backs himself on guitar with his ‘very lazy finger-picking’.

July 29 – Full blackboard night.

Every night at Red Hill Folk is packed with talent from our many fine regular and guest performers.

If you plan to perform, please arrive early!
