Brittany Haas and Tristan Clarridge were born in the same year in the same state–California. They grew up in parallel, with their string-playing older sisters, immersed in old-time, bluegrass, celtic and new-acoustic music, meeting first at a fiddle contest and later at the music camps they both attended every summer. Tristan went on to win the grand national fiddle championship five times and Brittany went on to play on banjoist Steve Martin’s Grammy award-winning CD. In 2007, they both joined seminal chambergrass band Crooked Still, touring the world for four years (twice in Australia). They were also both members of Darol Anger’s monumental chambergrass group The Republic of Strings. Brittany and Tristan have always loved the same styles and been influenced by the same musicians, so when given the special privilege to come together to play as a duo, their repertoire is wide and genre-ranging. Their musical mind-reading and improvisational interplay are dynamic and inclusive for all listeners.
