Volunteer musos at State Library

Monday morning volunteer music sessions at The State Library of Queensland

Dear Brisbane musicians/music groups/choirs,

Are you usually awake at 9am on a Monday? Are you happy to play for 45mins for a cup of coffee?

If yes, we have the gig for you! Every Monday morning 9.15am-10am on a stage outside our main entry door, a variety of volunteer performers have, for the last few months, entertained the thronging crowds waiting for our doors to open. The performances have been very well received. We have, so far, had a classical choir, jazz and classical piano and guitar, flamenco dancing and a musical-meditation-mantra duo!

We are seeking virtually any style of music (other than heavy rock – we’ve got nothing against heavy rock but it is 9 o’clock in the morning in a library!J) Classical, folk, jazz, bluegrass, choirs, solos, duos, string quartets etc. is the sort of thing which works well.

Equipment: we can provide a Kawai ES7 digital piano, small Yamaha PA, 2 vocal mics on boom stands.

This is a volunteer project and we are unable to pay artists. However, you are very welcome to sell CDs/ merchandise, distribute flyers during performance and otherwise promote yourself) At least 2 of our previous performers have picked up paid gigs from the exposure.

It’s an enjoyable performance opportunity and ideal if you’d like to rehearse a set in front of an audience (or perform just for the fun of it). The audience starts off small at 9.15am but by 10am there can be 100+ people gathered in front of the performance area enjoying the entertainment.

If you are interested in performing in 2016 (we start again in Feb), please email us at volunteering@slq.qld.gov.au.
