Lift your voices in joyful song – choir starts on Thursday 4 February!
Hello, lovely folk singers!
I hope you have had a relaxing Christmas break and are warming up your voices for a big sing in 2016!
Term 1 will run from Thursday 4th February to Thursday 17th March. It’s a short first term, because Easter is early, and of course we have to make time then to go to the National Folk Festival’s 50th year!
This term I am really looking forward to sharing with you the exciting new songs and arrangements I have been working on. I plan to start a new song every two weeks.
We’ll also continue developing some of the songs we started last year, and keep our favourites polished. This year I’ll also be inviting some special guests along to delve deeper into vocal technique and assist us in our quest for the most satisfying shanty and other folky topics.
We’ll be meeting again at the Red Hill Community Sports Club from 7:15 – 8:45pm. New people are of course welcome to join us – bring your friends! If you would like to pay in advance for the whole term, the full seven weeks comes at the concession price of $84. You can pay in cash or do a direct deposit, and those details are below. If you are attending casually, the full price is $15 per session, payable on the night.
Last year, Emma Nixon started her very popular Music Theory Class to help us fill in some of the gaps in our understanding. The class ran before Folk Choir rehearsals. This year she is running Level 2 Music Theory before Folk Choir from 6:00 – 6.45pm. Cost is $10, and everyone is welcome.
Emma will also be running the Level 1 class on the first and third Friday of the month, same time and place, all welcome. This is because the Brisbane Celtic Fiddle Club is also coming to rehearse at our venue on those Fridays, so the Red Hill Sports Club is really becoming a folk centre!
I look forward to seeing you all there soon!
