Tubular Bells for Two has enthralled and delighted sold out audiences with its mixture of theatricality and skilled musicianship.
Mike Oldfield’s album, Tubular Bells, is perhaps the most unlikely smash hit record ever to be released. The beautiful and sprawling progressive Celtic folk-rock opus shot to number one in album charts around the world during 1973 and 74, throwing its young composer into the international spotlight and kick-starting Richard Branson’s Virgin empire, with all its multi-layered madness and subtle beauty.
Musicians Daniel Holdsworth and Aidan Roberts have arranged the entirety of Tubular Bells for just two blokes. Tubular Bells for Two is intricately choreographed and rehearsed to present the work true to the original recording.
Over twenty instruments brings at times scarily hectic moments as instruments are frantically juggled to bring this influential masterpiece to life. There’s pianos, organs, electric guitars, acoustic and Spanish guitars, bass guitar, mandolin, tuned percussion, drums, glockenspiel, loop pedals, synthesizers, and, of course, tubular bells.
