February 2017 Programme & Special Guests

February 1 – Full blackboard night.

February 8th – Special Guests – The Elderly Brothers (8:30pm – 9:10pm). In the tradition of early brothers-harmony duos (Louvin Brothers, Delmore Brothers, Blue Sky Boys, Bill and Charlie Monroe) the Elderly Brothers (Ian ‘Ziggy’ Tredinnick and John Holmberg) present bluegrass and early country duets celebrating the close harmonies that characterized these ground-breaking styles. The Brothers are veterans of the Oz and American music scenes. Ziggy was involved in the very early Sydney bluegrass scene starting in the 60s and is known for his high tenor singing and fine guitar playing. John was a long-time member of Pirate Brides and plays mandolin and clawhammer banjo. Now they both reside at Queensland’sSunshine Coast and enjoy delving into this rich, evocative repertoire, when not sailing onSouth Passage, Queensland’s sail-training ship.

February 15th – Special Guest – John Kane (8:30pm – 9:10pm). Long ago, John left theinternationally successful 1960s-70s Brisbane band New World (originally New World Trio) famous for such hits as Try To Remember, Tom-Tom Turnaround and Living Next Door to Aliceto pursue an academic career. Now Professor in the School of Government and International Relations at Griffith University, John rekindled his love of music and has begun performing around Brisbane at venues that include, most happily (his words), Red Hill Folk. With his eclectic repertoire, melodious voice and outstanding song writing skills, John is an entertaining performer not to be missed.

February 22 – Full blackboard night.

Every night at Red Hill Folk is packed with talent from our many fine regular

and guest performers.

If you plan to perform, please arrive early!
